Cedella Marley to present Harambe Collection at CFW
Cedella Marley, fashion designer, musician, children’s book author, entrepreneur and, daughter of Bob and Rita Marley will present a new design aesthetic at Caribbean Fashionweek 2015. At the event’s 15th anniversary execution, Cedella will launch the ‘Harambe’ collection.
The discerning women in the CFW audience will get a feast of great looks from Marley’s latest line, fashioned from the designer’s eclectic style features. “The collection is inspired by my mother, and many other women who evoke the spirit of Africa. My mother loves color and accessories. She is inspired by her surroundings and loves nature. This will be strongly reflected in the looks I send down the runway this season,” says Cedella.
The younger Marley is keen to present her own interpretation on what she deems is her mother’s “100% original and experimental clothing choices with her very unique styling.” And how has Rita’s career in music influenced her style and what Cedella wishes to convey to women who will want to get looks from the collection? Says Marley, “performing the majority of your life can inspire you to dress in a very unique manner that sets you apart from the rest, I have always loved how she can wear a very bold skirt and head wrap with a simple tee shirt. That’s true Harambe style. And like my mother’s style philosophy, my message to the woman who will wear this collection is to ‘just be yourself’.”
A favourite on the CFW catwalk from the very beginning, Cedella launched her label in 2001, named after her father's debut album “Catch A Fire”. These impressive and diverse looks were a relaxed take on women’s wear with a tailored bohemian style and rasta edge in vivid colors and prints.
Cedella’s fashion career has blossomed since then and she has produced several other lines including Nice Time Deconstructed, Nice Time Kids and High Tide. The latter, sexy, cutting edge bikinis and flirty dresses received high praises after her CFW 2012 showing.
CMD (Cedella Marley Designs) in collaboration with Puma, designed the music-inspired and retro uniforms for the Jamaican track and field team for the 2012 Olympics which was shown at CFW 2012. A big feature at the London Olympics, Marley’s designs won several accolades including being named as one of the best team kits of all countries participating in the games. Her designs have been presented in different regions across the world, receiving coverage from Vogue and Glamour.
The ‘Harambe’ collection from Marley along with the those from best regional designers are expected to be on show at CFW 2015 as Pulse marks the 15th anniversary of the event.
